When sitting down with Carolyn Alvey, President of Aardvark Communications, it doesn’t take long to feel the passion she has for her work. Whether it is a client in need of direction in crisis communications or one looking to get the word out and grow their business, Carolyn quickly becomes each client’s strongest advocate. Over the years, she has led successful campaigns for clients in industries as varied as quick-service restaurants, luxury automotive, mixed-use developments, hotel and hospitality, financial services, and nonprofit organizations.
“I love the challenge of each project for our clients,” she said. “No two days are alike. Whoever the client is, I become passionate about what they do. I am a big picture thinking and I see the end result before we ever begin a campaign. Having a great team (and we have one!) that can see the vision and then get behind the goals and execution is a must.”
Carolyn has been a part of Aardvark since day one (back in 1992) and joined officially in 1994 to add public relations to the array of services the agency offers. Today, Carolyn does a lot of work in crisis communications and has enjoyed tremendous success in helping clients through their most challenging times. “I hate that companies have these tasking days but I thrive on guiding them through the internal and external communications strategies that are continually evolving as a crisis unfolds.”
Carolyn describes one large initiative she drove earlier in her career as one of the most rewarding and defining efforts of her professional life. If you have heard an Amber Alert either on the radio or seen one ping your phone, you are seeing the results of Carolyn’s work.
In 1996, Carolyn led a five-person task force to create what is now known as the Amber Alert, named for nine-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas, in 1996. “This has been one of the most rewarding efforts I have ever been involved with and I am thankful our task force has made such an indelible mark on recovering missing children and the impact it has had across the world.”
When she’s not working, you might find Carolyn taking in a baseball game, watching football, traveling, cooking on her Blackstone, dining at her favorite restaurants and, in all of these scenarios, spending time with family.
“My number one priority in life has always been to have a successful marriage and to raise our children to become kind, loving, independent, hardworking people,” she said. Carolyn and David have not only built a thriving business together, they have built a thriving, happy family, been married nearly 32 years and have three grown sons they are incredibly proud of.
